Activist, author Mark Kennedy Shriver to address commencement | Events
Three Rivers College announced Monday, March 25, that Mark Kennedy Shriver will deliver the commencement address at the 2013 graduation.
The commencement will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.
Shriver is an activist, author and politician who is best known for his work with Save the Children, an international charity dedicated to combating poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease worldwide. He is also the founder of “The Choice Program” which has served at-risk teens since 1988.
He is also the author of A Good Man: Rediscovering My Father, Sargent Shriver.
According to a news release, Dr. Devin Stephenson, the college president, said:
“This will be an event to not only honor our graduates, but to thank our community. We welcome everyone to come hear Mr. Shriver’s powerful message. We want to pack the Black River Coliseum. Shriver is inspirational because of his commitment to family, to excellence, and to making a difference in the lives of others.”
The event is free and open to the public.
